Harry Potter Is The Boy Who Lived Because Of His Mom's Unconditional Love For Him
In our 'Care of Magical Creatures Class', the required text, Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them, by Newt Scamander, states that Dragons are known wizard and muggle killers and impossible to train or domesticate. Tippy, some classmates, Hagrid, and I disagree.
One late afternoon, Tippy, Hagrid, and I met one while walking in the forest several months ago. The dragon's name is Peace, and he is very nice. Peace maintains that there are many different kind of dragons including winged dragons, fire breathing dragons, friendly dragons, and a few mean ones! He also states that dragons are not the blood-thirsty monsters as portrayed in western history books , and they don't take sacrifices, burn villages or drag ships off the edge of the world.
During one of our visits with Peace I asked him, "Why do people believe that dragons are mean." "Well," Peace said in a soft voice, "thousands of years ago when storytellers began to spin their tales of Dragons as Monstrous Beasts, many young people wanted to become a famous Dragon Slayer. But imagine the surprise on their faces when we greeted them with friendship instead of tremendous roars and fire! Friendship you ask? Yes, Friendship! But they could hardly return to their people with tales of friendly dragons and so they themselves began to spin outrageous stories of battles with us which earned them their desired title.
Dragons have been slandered and liabled for years. The malicious rumours soon led to dragons gaining a bad reputation. Sadly this has made it hard for dragons to make friends. Many of the people we meet will not even give us a chance to be their friend because they try to kill us. Sure, we can be fierce and we can fight when we need to save our lives, but we prefer to be friends with humans. Those of us who have not become bitter (due to human prejudice and hate) actually want to help wizards and muggles experience a very humane and peaceful world. We want them to protect the environment, truly encounter lasting peace with other humans, and respect nature and animals."
During the past several weekends, Peace has been sharing with us his thoughts on Social Justice, Christmas Peace, and Environmental Health.
One time, as we were leaving his den he said,"See you next weekend and Merry Christmas!" "This is April, Peace, Christmas is many months away!" said I in surprise. "Everyday should be Christmas, my friend," said Peace. "Yer right," exclaimed Hagrid, "And Merry Christmas, to you, Peace, see ya soon". |
